(transcript of interview conducted July, 2006 between Joe Zychik and Mr. 731)

Joe: OK, Mr. 731. Do you want to describe your sexually addictive behavior without going into any graphic details, because as you know, in my work we don't resort to graphic details.

Mr. 731: Masturbation to pornography, chat rooms, and to a lesser extent phone sex.

Joe: When is that last time you acted sexually addictive?

Mr. 731: It's been I think just over two years.

Joe: How about sexual contact with other people besides your partner?

Mr. 731: Primarily with other men and to a lesser extent other women.

Joe: Regarding those experiences, where are you now?

Mr. 731: I'm actively heterosexual, monogamous with my loving wife and I haven't had outside sexual relations in years. I couldn't count 'em for ya.

Joe: That's one of the things we got taken care of right away.

Mr. 731: That's very correct. In fact my wife and I were just discussing it. And sometimes we'll think back, you know, together and think, "Wow, what an absolutely horrible place we were in and how fortunate we are to have been able to work through it."

Joe: Was any attempt to make you feel guilty used? Was there any attempt to get you to "confess" and admit your "sins"?

Mr. 731: No, no, no. No, nothing of that nature at all. That's just the opposite of what counseling with you has been like.

Joe: I just want to go over a few things, and you tell me what you think of it from your own experience?

Mr. 731: Yep.

Joe: Standard 12-step conventional licensed therapy: "You have a desire to masturbate or use porn. Instead of masturbating or using porn, go have sex with your wife."

Mr. 731: You're totally using your partner and you're using her in an addictive way.

Joe: Somebody goes into conventional licensed therapy. They're told, "Throw out the computer." They're never really dealing with the inner problem. They fail. Are these people hopeless?

Mr. 731: No, absolutely not. With the right approach it is something that you can overcome and you can have a wonderful loving relationship and you can feel good about yourself.

Joe: My best to you and the missus.

Mr. 731: And I really want to thank you for your hard work and your persistence and your honesty and your caring and commitment. I gotta tell you, I have never met anyone more dedicated. I feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled across you and to have gotten the chance to turn my life around.
